Hall Farm was a very early adopter of environmental schemes and has been in Countryside Stewardship in its various forms since 1992. This environmental focus continues to this day having entered a new 5 year agreement from 2021. Our aim is to farm in a sympathetic way with nature whilst still maintaining a profitable business.

We have 50kW of solar panels on our barn roofs to produce renewable electricity for the farm.

We recently undertook a carbon audit for the farm as a whole and found that our farm operating emissions were 400t CO2, but our soil carbon emissions/sequestration were -530t, thus by following current farm practice we are carbon negative to the tune of over 100t CO2 per year. This figure can be improved slightly in future by reducing cultivations where appropriate, and by being more efficient with our use of bought in inorganic fertiliser – especially pertinent since the recent unprecedented price hikes. However it is reassuring that at least we are ‘doing our bit’ for the environment.
